Your Subaru is rugged, durable, and built to go the distance. But there's a lot going on inside, and stressors like high heat and continual vibrations eventually wear down components, inhibiting optimum operation. And that stress is compounded by extreme conditions like high heat & humidity, jarring terrain, and excess dirt, dust, and debris; things that Hawaii drivers know well. Frequent maintenance ensures everything is shipshape so that your Subaru can stand up to the elements. Examples of regular maintenance items include oil and filter changes, tire rotations, wheel alignment, brake inspections, wiper replacements, and battery checks.
Getting the oil changed in your vehicle is one of the most important automotive services to get.

For 2015 or newer Subaru models, oil should be changed every 6 months or 5,000 miles driven - whichever comes first. However, factors like driving style and road and climate conditions can have a major effect on oil consumption and breakdown. Your Warranty & Maintenance Booklet provides service interval information specific to your model.
You should get into the habit of checking your vehicle's fluid levels at least once a week. Tip: Start with checking your vehicle's fluid levels each time you stop for this gas. This will help you monitor your fluids and top-off any of your reservoirs that are low on fluid.
Subaru recommends replacing the cabin filter every 12 months or 10,000 miles or more often as needed. It filters the air entering your vehicle.
  • When you regularly replace the cabin air filter, you reduce the amount of pollution and irritating allergens.
  • Mold can build up on the filter, which can cause bad odors and smells.
  • A dirty or clogged cabin air filter can reduce AC airflow and efficiency.
Subaru recommends inspecting the brake lines, pads, and rotors every 12,000 miles or once a year. Brake fluid should be replaced at 30,000-mile/30-month intervals. Otherwise, you should bring your Subaru for service if you notice symptoms such as stiff or spongey pedal feel, acrid or burning odor, excessive steering wheel vibrations, or pulling to one side.
Brake pads should be replaced when you start to hear a loud, high-pitched grinding noise coming from your wheels and rotors. This indicates the brake pads have worn down to the metal backing plates and are scraping against the edge of your metal rotor.
Car batteries are imperative to the function of your vehicle's electrical software, including generating enough power to start up the engine. We recommend replacing your car battery as issues arise.
Tire rotation is essential to ensuring even tread wear and maximum tire lifespan. Subaru recommends tire rotations every 5,000 miles. So, having them rotated with your oil change is an easy way to remember.
Please refer to your owner's manual or the information on the outside of the tire for the recommended operating pressure. Overinflation or underinflation of tires may cause damage and shorten tire life
Check engine lights indicate something may be wrong with the engine. If the light illuminates, contact us to make a reservation to diagnose the issue.
Do not ignore warning lights. Underinflation can cause permanent damage to your tires.
You may need to replace the battery inside the key fob. In the meantime, you should be able to manually open your doors using the key. There is a mechanical key within the Smart Key that will open the driver's door. Once you enter the vehicle, hold the Smart Key next to the START button and depress. This will allow the engine to start. If the engine doesn't start and the power door locks are inoperable, the concern may be a weak engine battery and not a weak Smart Key battery.

See your vehicle's owner manual.
